Tutto Il Giorno
6 Bay St. Sag Harbor, NY 631-725-7009
It's always news when a hot Manhattan food talent hits the Hamptons. This summer, Scott Conant, formerly of L'Impero and Alto, is consulting chef at this sunny yellow space across from the Sag Harbor marina. Conant's contemporary Italian menu is executed by chef Benito Trombetta (who cooked at Il Buco in Manhattan) and sous chef Matthew Purcell (who was at Almond in Bridgehampton). The restaurant's name, which means "all day" in Italian, refers to the fact that it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. On a recent lunch visit, the phrase also described the time it took for my order to reach the table. But it was worth the wait for a chilled pea soup that was springtime in a bowl. On the dinner menu are such specialties as slow poached orata rossa with lobster as well as grilled bistecca alla Fiorentina. The restaurant is co-owned by Maria and Larry Baum and Marianne and Steve Florio (he's the former CEO of Conde Nast).
