Just when you thought that Lena Dunham was too cool for school, and we mean that in a good way, she and her hip girl gang from the HBO hit series “Girls” go and do nail polish collaboration with celebrity manicure mama Deborah Lippmann.

Described on Lippmann’s website as “Independent. Feminine. Playful. Sexy,” the set of four shades costs $45 and is available for pre-order.  A spokesman for the brand said they expected orders to ship Jan. 15.

Colors, based on the individual on-screen personalities, include: “Hopeless Hunter Green,” for Dunham’s Hannah Horvath; “Prim and Proper Pink,” named for Allison Williams’ uptight Marnie Michaels; “Virtuous Vivid Violet,” for Zosia Mamet’s virginal Shoshanna Shapiro; and “Bohemian Burgundy,” after Boho-bad girl Jessa Johansson, played by Jemima Kirke.

We haven’t noticed series creator Dunham wearing much makeup or nail polish on the show, but in a blurb on Lippmann’s website, Dunham says, “Deborah Lippmann's colors are irreverent and classy, and I've always coveted them (and stolen them from my mother), so who better to embody the Girls' spirit in polish form. I've been wearing ‘Hannah’ like it's going out of style.”  The star has both tweeted about the product and instagrammed a photo wearing it.  The whole commercial nail polish thing seems weirdly at odds with Dunham's gritty-funny world view, but then, what do we know?

Lippmann has done HBO-show inspired nail polish before, notably for hit “True Blood.”  Preorders of the polishes, shown below, are available at lippmancollection.com.
