Miley Cyrus named Teen Choice Awards style icon over Lea Michele, Emma Watson, Demi Lovato?!
I never thought that in my 20s I would already be too old to understand teens. . . but then Miley Cyrus won the Style Icon award at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards Sunday night for the second year in a row.
Why? Just, why?
OK, she takes risks. And sometimes they work -- but not often enough.
Cyrus is a devoted believer in "less is more" when it comes to clothing, which makes her a not so great role model for the younger set, or anyone, really.
The queen of the crop top is partial to leather bustiers, thigh-high boots and miniskirts. Which of those things would you like to see your teenage daughter walking around in? Yeah, that's what I thought.
The outfit Cyrus wore to accept the award speaks for itself: a leather bra, transparent shirt and tight leather skirt made of belt buckles. Because really, a leather bra is the only logical thing to wear to an awards show watched by 13-year-olds.
You're not a Disney star anymore . . . we got that memo a long time ago. And yes, you have nice abs, but I truly think we would appreciate them more if we didn't have to see them every single day of our lives.
There are plenty of more suitable teen style icons -- among them fellow nominees Lea Michele, Emma Watson, Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande. But the teens have spoken, and they look up to the girl who goes grocery shopping in a dollar-bill printed miniskirt and crop top. Parents: Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.
