Why you'll love Target (even more) this spring
Don’t look now but your Target’s getting a makeover—or that’s what it’ll look like May 6 when you enter and discover The Shops at Target, a series of stores-within-the-store offering limited-edition collections of clothing and accessories, beauty products, home goods, pet doodads—even candy—all designed in collaboration with the owners of five uber-cool shops from around the country. And get this—two of the five shops are run by native Long Islanders.
“It’s like winning the lottery,” says Suzanne Cassano, who grew up in Roslyn Heights and now co-owns Privet House, a two-store chain offering antiques, artwork and vintage home and garden gifts in Warren and Greenwich, Connecticut.
“I didn’t take it seriously—I thought they wanted me to get some special credit card,” says Diane Campbell, recalling the first time the folks at Target reached out to her. Campbell, a native of Great Neck who with her husband, Brian, runs The Candy Store, a gourmet sweets shop in San Francisco, eventually met with Target reps and realized, “No…this is really happening.”
In addition to Privet’s housewares and The Candy Store’s treats, Target will present tropical-chic, South Beachy apparel and accessories (for men, women and girls, including fun flirty dresses in Art Deco or vintage wallpaper prints) designed in conjunction with The Webster, a trendy shop in Miami; a line of beauty products (including bath and body gear, beauty tools, manicure must-haves and vivid cosmetic bags) from Cos Bar, an Aspen-based chain; and doggie delicacies (yep, we’re talking freshly baked gourmet treats, plus bowls, balls, collars and more) from Boston’s Polka Dog Bakery.
You’ll find nearly 400 exclusive, affordably priced products, from $1 nail files to a $159.99 pouf.
The five mini shops debut at all Target stores and target.com May 6—but don’t dawdle. The program lasts six weeks, and then they’re gone. Although it looks like Target will be making this an annual or semi-annual thing.
