Saks Off 5th revealed its luxury loft-style layout and designer merchandise at its brand new store in the Gallery at Westbury Plaza Wednesday night, but for associate district manager Adam Arabian, who moved from the now closed store at the Source Mall down the street, it was all about the community.

"We have a tight community in Westbury and a very loyal customer base," Arabian said, "and that's why it was so great to have the opportunity to move into this new complex but to be able to continue and build a relationship with the community."

Opening night brought big crowds, as men browsed the expanded suiting section, women scooped up fall trends from top designers and families grabbed outfits for the kids.

In addition to men's and women's clothing, shoes and designer handbags, the store has a large fine jewelry section, designer sunglasses for men and women, luggage, home goods and fall accessories like fur and scarves.

But will Saks Off 5th stand out against its incoming neighbors, Nordstrom Rack and Bloomingdale's Outlet? Vice president of marketing Amber Cacali says yes.

"We have a very different product mix than the other stores," Cacali said. "We have over 811 brands in our store and that's through men's, women's and children's apparel as well as we have new brands we have developed on our own. We are also very thoughtful about making sure the customer gets a great deal."

The average person would still consider the store to be a luxury shopping experience when it comes to prices, but for high fashion designer pieces, most merchandise is largely discounted. Think Diane von Furstenberg skirts for about $100, Marc Jacobs dresses for about $200 and Oscar de la Renta pieces for about $700 instead of thousands.

Saks off 5th offers a free loyalty discount program called "More" that sends coupons to customers through mail and email and also allows them to benefit from in-store specials.

The store opened to the public Thursday morning and joins Trader Joe's and The Container Store as they wait for their neighboring stores to open their doors.
