Project Prom: 'Field of Dreams' takes it
It’s official. Some 3,000 Newsday readers voted on four potential dresses that this year’s Project Prom girl, Danielle Trotta, 17, of Seaford, should wear to her prom. More than a third of them chose, “Field of Dreams,” a lively abstract floral number with a bejeweled Empire waist by Alex & Eve from Alight, in Plainview.
Dani, as she’s called by friends and family is satisfied with the choice. “I really like it because it’s different, and my friends said that one looked best on me and fit me best. The readers did a good job.”
Of the process, Dani said, “I am so glad I did it. It changed my life for the better,” and after a tough few years that included major damage to her home from Super storm Sandy, she said all the attention and fun, “was healing.” And there were perks outside of having Newsday buy her the dress. Recently a waitress at a restaurant recognized her from the story, and gave her family free ice cream!
But it isn’t over. We’ll catch up with Dani at her prom on June 20. Can’t wait!
