Neiman Marcus coming to Roosevelt Field
Yes, it's true: Neiman Marcus is coming to Garden City -- and that's not all.
A 100,000-square-foot building will be added to Roosevelt Field, which, at 2.2 million square feet, is already the sixth-largest retail shopping mall in the United States. It will create room for even more shops leading up to the luxury department store, and will also be accompanied by a new parking structure, according to the mall developer, Simon Property Group.
“Neiman Marcus will be an impressive complement to our existing roster of more than 270 retailers and will further enhance our ability to provide shoppers with the highest quality and selection of goods that they have come to expect and enjoy at Roosevelt Field," David Simon, chairman and chief executive of Simon Property Group, said in a statement Thursday.
Construction is set to begin in 2013, and the Neiman Marcus store is expected to open in 2015.
A food pavillion with new dining options and outdoor seating will replace the existing food court, and new restaurants including The Capital Grille, Havana Central, Skinny Pizza and Seasons 52 will join the mall's surrounding area.
The expansion will be privately funded and will not involve any taxpayer money, according to Richard Sokolov, president and chief operating officer of Simon Property Group.
