Macy's urged to dump Donald Trump apparel, fragrance
Business magnate Donald Trump's political tirades could affect his fashion and fragrance lines at Macy's stores nationwide.
Trump, a public supporter of Republican candidate Mitt Romney, has outwardly questioned President Barack Obama's background, and in October offered $5 million to the charity of the president's choice if he released his college and passport records.
After Obama was re-elected, Trump took to Twitter, posting more than 10 angry tweets bashing the outcome and the electoral process. Some were later deleted from his account.
Now, the pressure is on Macy's, Inc. as more than 500,000 people have signed an online petition on SignOn.org that urges the U.S. department store chain to stop carrying the Trump brand.
The petition statement reads: "Macy's: Donald Trump does not reflect the 'magic of Macy's.' We urge you to sever ties with him. Macy's says it has a strong obligation to be 'socially responsible' and that 'actions speak louder than words.' Indeed. It's time to act."
The petition calls Trump sexist and hypocritical and berates his post-Hurricane Sandy comment that global warming does not exist, among other statements.
Trump's line for Macy's includes suits, ties, dress shirts, cuff links and men's fragrances, and this year's holiday offerings include the Success by Trump gift set, a Macy's exclusive, $65, that has two eau de toilette sprays and a deodorant.
"My fragrance--"Success"--is flying off the shelves @Macys. The perfect Christmas gift!" Trump tweeted Tuesday.
