Lupita Nyong’o gets her first Vogue cover
Win a SAG award …great. An Oscar? Wow ... even better. But when it comes to fashion, you know you’ve really arrived when you make the cover of Vogue magazine.
These are the real life events of Lupita Nyong’o, 31, whose image graces the cover of Vogue’s July issue (it hits newsstands on June 30). In a downright gushing story penned by the magazine’s editor-at-large Hamish Bowles, he writes, “… Lupita appeared to spring into our lives fully formed, both as a consummate movie actress receiving her profession’s highest honor and as an intriguing fashion star and superlative beauty icon. She is quick to note that her “red carpet” self “is just one aspect of me; it doesn’t represent the entirety of me, which I am at peace with.”
Bowles calls the Yale-educated actress who rocks a body clinging Prada number on the cover “…as beautiful and hieratic as an ancient Egyptian statue of a cat goddess” and the gorgeous spread shot in Marrakech, Morocco, this May by photographer Mikael Jansson supports this. The actress, apparently excited by her latest milestone tweeted, "This Summer, I am totally COVERED!," with a link to the story.
This is not Nyong’o’s first cover. She was named People magazine’s “Most Beautiful Woman in the World” appearing on the cover in April. It’s been a very good year for the newish star. She snared a beauty contract as the face of Lancôme and will join the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. Bravo.
