Kanye West's A.P.C. collaboration sells out within seconds
Only Kanye West could cause a fashion frenzy and crash a website by releasing a $120 plain white T-shirt.
The style-obsessed hip-hop star's collaboration with minimalist French label A.P.C. launched in the United States at 10 a.m. Sunday, and within mere seconds the collection was sold out and the A.P.C. site was down.
But fear not, Yeezy fans: The site is back up and running, and seven items are available for pre-order, to be delivered when the collection is back in stock.
Available items include hooded sweatshirts in navy blue and dark navy for $280, a short-sleeved gray sweatshirt for $250, Egyptian cotton short-sleeved Tees in navy and white for $120, and low-waisted, skinny leg jeans in a light and dark wash for $265.
The clothes may look, um, simple to put it nicely, but it comes as no surprise that working with West was still a headache for designer and A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou, who told W Magazine, “When we finally finished this collection, I felt like, OK, if I made this happen, then I can achieve peace in the Middle East.”
Reportedly, West was constantly trying to redesign items and nixed many of the pieces just before production.
“He could want a piece to be baggy and skinny at the same time . . . you just find a way,” Touitou told Style.com.
West isn't the only one profiting off this collection, however. Sweatshirts are listed on eBay today for as high as $800, jeans for up to $600.
