Attention VIPs (only): There's a free fashion lending spot in East Hampton
Oh the horror. You’re a Hamptons-stationed VIP, celebrity or socialite and you’ve gotten a last minute invite to a flashy party or a charity event there. You have to make a public appearance and…gasp…you haven’t a thing to wear.
That’s exactly why Carmen Adriana, 38, a veteran stylist, recently opened Fabinjection in East Hampton where notables can borrow contemporary and designer clothing and accessories for no charge. They’ll have to take a little social media photograph and if they do get photographed the brands get credit, but other than that it’s a quick fix.
The 300-square-foot salon located on the second floor of 2 Newtown Lane is packed with looks from designers such as Carmen Marc Valvo, Dana-Maxx, Alicia Reina, Slater Zorn and Suma Chander, and accessories include PONO by Joan Goodman, Audrey Hu, Double Happiness and Eldenwa.
“Fall is coming in now on Main Street here, and summer is kind of picked over. There’s Michael Kors, Catherine Malandrino, Scoop and Intermix, but it’s everywhere and we have some things that are more special and that you can’t find here at all,” says Adriana.
Visits are by appointment only though Adriana says she can be there in a jiffy and is always nearby, hence always open. She started in the styling business years ago as an assistant to celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch where she says she spent a lot of time, “zipping Halle Berry into dresses.” She’s also worked with Deborah Norville, Carmen Electra, Rachel Hunter and Christie Brinkley.
Adriana says she welcomes stylists and managers along with high and mighty types, but if necessary will style a whole look herself. “I don’t want to step on another stylists’ toes, but they know I’m not going to send anyone out looking like Bozo the clown.”
So far the one downside of the new business, says Adriana, is the need to redesign her Fabinjection logo. “I wanted it to be like a cure for your style problems,” she says of the red stiletto-wearing silhouette sitting atop a hypodermic needle. “But people think it’s a Botox salon. These are the kinds of things I’m learning.”
Oh, and for all of us mere mortal types – non-celebs – we're welcome to make an appointment there too. But life is not always fair – we'll be paying for the stuff, though Adriana will help (on premise) with the styling gratis. For an appointment call 631-604-5059.
