After brain tumor, Long Islander starts toxin-free line
East Setauket native Indie Lee was a living a quiet life as an accountant when -- bam! -- came the brain tumor diagnosis. On Earth Day, 2009, she awoke from surgery to learn it had been successfully removed . . . and that environmental toxins may have contributed to its cause.
She left corporate life, determined to educate others about the dangers of chemicals in beauty products.
Her website, indielee.com, offers luxe, "toxin-free" skin care alternatives -- plus do-it-yourself instructions on how to make your own lemon toner, bath fizzies and more.
The mom of two, who's developed another tumor, remains undaunted. "You can't control what life hands you," she recently tweeted, "but you can control your attitude towards life."
