Abercrombie & Fitch gets out of a 'situation' with 'Jersey Shore' star Mike Sorrentino
There's a long list of people who dislike pompous Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries. Among them: overweight teens, "ugly" people and "Jersey Shore" star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino.
Jeffries has been slammed in the past for his comments about his brand's efforts to be "exclusionary" and cater only to attractive "cool kids," and it would seem that Sorrentino, with his chiseled abs, golden tan and oversized ego, would be just his type.
But Abercrombie & Fitch got itself into a bit of a well, situation, in 2011 when Sorrentino's company filed a lawsuit claiming trademark infringement over a T-shirt reading "The Fitchuation."
U.S. Magistrate Judge John O'Sullivan has come to a decision, and he's siding against the reality star, The Associated Press reports. O'Sullivan ruled that because Abercrombie marketed the shirt as a parody and produced a very different product from the shirts made by Sorrentino's company (which came out after Abercrombie's), there was no trademark violation.
But a warning to the people who bought those shirts — you are guilty of a serious fashion violation in our book.
