Second Time Around
276 Main St. Huntington, NY 631-351-4070
With brick walls, gleaming hardwood floors and neat racks of designer items organized by category, Second Time Around feels more like a shiny new boutique than a used clothing store. Just opened in November on Huntington’s busy Main Street, it’s the first of the consignment chain’s stores on Long Island, but there are a whopping nine of them scattered throughout Manhattan.
A curated selection of staff picks in the center of the store helps shoppers in need of style inspiration, and merchandise ranges from high-end designers like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Burberry to contemporary brands such as Juicy Couture, BCBG and Aqua.
Gina Roseen, 58, of Huntington, was strolling through town when she stumbled upon the store.
“It's so well organized and nothing looks worn -- it doesn't feel like a consignment shop at all,” she says.
For Roseen, the most exciting find since the store opened in November 2012 has been a rare silver Tiffany & Co. charm bracelet she had never seen anywhere else. She came back with handbags and high-end business attire from her closet, hoping to make some cash to spend on more jewelry.
“I love to consign; it's like the planet's rotating,” she says. “I can get rid of the things I'm tired of, and they'll be new for someone else.”
Many items are unworn with the original tags intact, and prices are about one third of original retail prices, says sales associate Michelle Daciuk. Everything is marked down monthly by 20, 30 and then 50 percent.
Consign: Second Time Around accepts seasonally appropriate items that are no older than two years and in new or like-new condition. Garments must be freshly laundered and neatly folded in bags. There is a three-piece minimum to start an account. The consignor receives 40 percent on most items and 50 percent on designer handbags and furs once they are sold. In-house consignment is available for consignors with 50 or more high-end designer pieces. Make an appointment to consign by calling 631-351-4070 and track the status of your items at secondtimearound.net.
