Water sports, Clothing, Bathing suits
Dave Juan and Mike Nelson opened hot lifestyle brand Quiksilver's only Long Island storefront in Oceanside to coincide with theQuiksilver Pro surfing tournament in neighboring Long Beach in 2011, and it has become a destination for surfers, skaters, snowboarders and style-savvy beachgoers ever since.
Juan, 35, and Nelson, 37, both of East Rockaway, took on the project while running Unsound Surf in Long Beach. The store sells Quiksilver-owned brands Roxy and DC, and has a large selection of clothing for guys and girls in addition to surfboards from Hawaii, California and Australia ($550-$1,000), wet suits, surfer booties, repair equipment and skateboards ($100-$250).
Girls come in for the cute bikinis, sandals and cover-ups. "Really bright board shorts are popular for guys right now," says manager Katie Millerick, 26, and the store has a wall full of them with tanks to match. "It's a popular spot for people to pick up gifts," Juan says. "You'll find things here you can't get at the mall."
