The shopping forecast for the Hamptons seemed pretty grim earlier this month as a bunch of stores in the chichi shoppers' mecca, East Hampton, sat empty with brown paper-shrouded windows that once displayed pricey baubles, art, beachy designer apparel and more. And, ouch, it hurts when big luxury guns like Gucci pack up and leave, and strong resources such as Cole Haan and Calypso Home head out.
