The Farmingdale outlet of the “Wings Over” chain employs a military aircraft-based naming system for its selection of mostly-chicken dishes -- such as a “DC-3” for a half-pound of boneless wings, or an “F-16” for a pound of bone-in wings. There are a number metallic chairs and tables inside this small, silver-hued venue (which by night are usually populated by the many young diners who wander between the many bars located along Main Street), but the business here is mainly take-out. There are wraps and burgers, but the main menu options are chicken wings, with various flavors and levels of spice. Everything comes in large portions, including the always-popular waffle fries.

 Wings Over Farmingdale is the first Long Island outpost of a franchise operation that started in Amherst, Massachusetts in September of 1998. Two University of Massachusetts students, Patrick Daly and Harold Tramazzo, opened Wings Over Amherst with the goal of delivering simple, high quality food at fair prices.

The store, which has an appealing airplane-hanger look to it, sells both regular and battered boneless wings. The 22 flavors include Wimpy (still has a little bite to it), Red Alert (hotter than most hots), Jet Fuel (hope you've tried Red Alert first), Bar-B-Que, Golden Bar-B-Que (a mustard-based Bar-B-Que sauce), Kicken Bar-B-Que (Bar-B-Que with a hint of wimpy), Cajun Bar-B-Que, Teriyaki, Garlic Parmesan, Jamaican Jerk, West Texas Mesquite and Honey Lime.

Sides include fries and onion rings. Burgers, ribs, wraps and chicken sandwiches are also available.
