Incredibly popular with Massapequa diners, fans of this restaurant’s menu will pack the room to the hilt come dinnertime, while weekends can be even more intense—so be sure and be patient, the valet operator will handle the parking for you. Once inside, the selection of food is generally Italian, although fans of other European cuisine will be pleasantly surprised to find the French favorite of escargot (although Sergio’s does match it with a “snails Italiano”). Salads, soups and vegetables fried in garlic and oil are all ready to help open your meal, which center on various entrées of seafood, veal, pasta, chicken, beef and pork.

Unpretentious, consistent neighborhood spot that offers all the standards but excels with gutsy southern Italian fare. The best of it: orange salad, stuffed artichoke, perciatelli pasta with sardines and fennel, eggplant Parmigiana, spaghetti and meatballs, pasta e fagioli, pasta piselli, beef braciola, tripe three ways, cannoli.
