Luncheonette lingo definitions
"Shake one brown cow!"
A soda jerk receiving this directive from a waiter would know that a chocolate-root beer milk shake was needed ASAP. During the heyday of the luncheonette, cooks and servers developed their own language to describe items on the menu, for example:
Adam and Eve on a raft: Poached eggs on toast
Adam and Eve on a raft; wreck 'em : Scrambled eggs on toast
Baled...
