A number of Long Island eateries serve breakfast and lunch only -- and are proud to do just that.

THE COOKROOM, 25 Middle Country Rd., Middle Island, 631-696-4260

This restored railroad car diner, with lovely Art Deco details, serves breakfast and lunch Wednesday to Monday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; closed Tuesdays. Owner Annie Mandler's repertoire includes such standouts as "oaty oat" pancakes, breakfast biscuit sliders, freshly ground burgers, hefty sandwiches and house-made desserts.

SARABETH'S AT LORD & TAYLOR, 1440 Northern Blvd., Manhasset, 516-627-3000, and 1200 Franklin Ave., Garden City, 516-742-7000

At dessert queen Sarabeth Levine's department store cafes, breakfast and lunch dishes are served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday and, on Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m. Among specialties are the "goldie lox" egg scramble, smoked salmon tea sandwiches and, for dessert, a deep, dark chocolate pudding.

BROWNSTONE'S COFFEE, 55 Merrick Rd., Amityville, 631-608-8627

Nostalgia rules at this spot offering imaginative breakfast scrambles and frittatas, as well as pancakes, waffles and crepes. For lunch, you'll find salads, flatbreads, panini and burgers. Open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MORNING ROSE CAFE, 317 Bedford Ave., Bellmore, 516-221-5010

With white wainscoting, pale celadon walls and soft background music, Rose Tzanetos' eponymous breakfast and lunch cafe has charm to spare. You can't eat charm, but you'll want to   jump-start your day with chef Roberto Baez' hot chilaquiles (combining habanero-flecked tortillas, tomatillo salsa, cheese, avocado, salsa, cilantro and scrambled eggs with steak, chicken or pork) or the meltingly good Cuban Reuben. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
