The goal was Memorial Day, and Legends Restaurant's reopening managed to come in a few days under the wire.
A snowstorm back in January didn’t quite collapse the roof at the long-standing New Suffolk stalwart, but, said co-owner Diane Harkoff, it caused “a support issue.” Legends is situated just across the street from the water, but its immediate view had always been a waterside derelict lot. As this lot had recently been purchased and spruced up, by the Peconic Land Trust, Diane and her husband, Dennis Harkoff, decided that instead of just repairing the roof, they would raise the roof line, install taller windows, thereby availing themselves of “the panoramic view of Cutchogue Harbor and Peconic Bay.”
Chef Ralph Foulkes has added a few new items—za’atar-dusted lamb chops, Israeli couscous with merguez sausage—to the eclectic menu, but there’s been no change of focus or style. Just a better view.
