Laverne of Great Neck succeeds Bangkok Station, bringing a combo plate to Cutter Mill Road.
The new restaurant offers Japanese, French-fusion and Thai cuisines. Laverne had earned a two-star rating in Newsday at its former site on Old Country Road in Westbury, where the kitchen specialized in Japanese and French fare.
At this address, diners can expect dishes such as tom kha gai, the coconut-and-chicken soup popular at Bangkok Station; lobster-and-mango salad, seviche, miso black cod, a wide variety of sushi rolls, pad Thai, Penang curries, teriyakis and tempuras, as well as a rib-eye steak in a red-wine reduction and whole crisp black sea bass finished with chilies, garlic and pineapple.
