The Imperial Diner was given a facade lift in 2003, and the shiny exterior and bright red letters are hard to miss driving down Merrick Road. The wait staff is friendly and usually remembers to check in with customers once the plates have been set down.

While the menu contains standard diner fare at reasonable prices, a surprising standout worth trying is the Kung Pow Calamari (served with Asian slaw and a fortune cookie). An unlikely item on a list of usual suspects, the sweet and spicy flavors combine for a memorable dish.

Another selection dish is the salmon burger (made on the premises) served with the option of either wasabi or cilantro mayonnaise.

A bonus in the main room is the flat screen television, usually entertaining customers with sports programming, or educating them with news broadcasts. The room in the back is ideal for graduation celebrations and private parties.
