Peter Gianotti
Peter M. Gianotti is Newsday's restaurant critic and wine-and-spirits columnist. He's the author of "A Guide to Long Island Wine Country," "Newsday's Guide to the Wines of Long Island," "Dining Out with Newsday" and co-author of "Newsday's Long Island Restaurant Guide" and "Eats NYC." Before reviewing restaurants, Gianotti was a Washington correspondent, economics writer, book critic and New York City reporter. Gianotti received his master's degree from Columbia University, where he also was a Bagehot Fellow; and his bachelor's degree from Fordham University, where he has taught journalism. He was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens and lives on Long Island.

Trata, the high-end Greek seafood restaurant, reopens in Water Mill tonight with two new chefs in the kitchen.

Ocean, which looks onto Long Island Sound, is the new restaurant at the Crescent Beach Club in Bayville. It succeeds the Pine Island Grill.

Jedediah Hawkins Inn, the handsome Italianate star in Jamesport, goes casual on Sunday with a holiday weekend pig roast.
The cost for the outdoor event is $65 for adults; $25 for children. The restaurant's new executive chef, Lia Fallon, said that in addition to the pig roast, there would be a raw bar, plus a hot dog cart for children. Beer and sangria are included for adults.

Marble, an American steakhouse, is to open Tuesday in the Floral Park space formerly occupied by Bob's Restaurant.
The new estalishment is expected to seat 132 and also have a 14-seat bar. There will be an upstairs lounge called Carrara, which seats 32.
Co-owner Christopher Corbett also runs J Fallon's Tap Room, on Tulip Avenue in Floral Park.

Blind Bat Brewery's Long Island Potato Stout has won Long Island Beer of the Year honors in the third annual online Craft Beer Week poll.
The "Golden Tap Awards" honoree Blind Bat is headquartered in Centerport but expects to relocate to Farmingdale later this year.
The winner for best new beer was Great South Bay Brewery's Blood Orange Pale Ale. The brewery is in Bay Shore.
