The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene

West East, Hicksville: First bites

The new name is a mouthful: West East All Natural Bistro & Bar. But so's the food.

This is the heir to an old favorite, West East Bistro. Now, it's a partnership between Danny Wu and new executive chef Jay Jadeja.

Their venture specializes in hormone- and antiobiotic-free poultry and pork; and grass-fed beef from Painted Hill Farms.

Those are all good things, as is the softer look of the place.

Enjoy the Vietnamese spring roll (light and crisp) and the "Baaaaaang Baaaaaang" shrimp (slightly hot, mostly sweet). Try the snowy, moist Pacific halibut or the "Kerala" trout finished with coconut curry. And order that Painted Hills filet mignon, tender and very good.

You'll want to return.

West East All Natural Bistro & Bar, 758 S. Broadway, Hicksville; 516-939-6618.
