Tasty American Coo Coo comes to Huntington
Tasty American Coo Coo is the unlikely name of a little Persian eatery totally hidden away in a Huntington alley between Clinton and Wall streets, bordering the municipal parking lot.
Chef-owner Sha Safaii, who is originally from Iran, offers an array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, most served on a bed of bright, fresh vegetables (plus some unwelcome iceberg lettuce), accompanied by “coo coo” bread, a flaky flatbread similar to Indian naan.
The place, although fairly small, is colorful and nicely appointed. Order at the counter and your food will be delivered to your table. A specialty here is coo coo sabzi ($6.95), a custardy dish similar to a crustless quiche and made with green vegetables, fresh herbs and eggs. I thought the dark green wedge exotic-tasting and lively. Salmon kebabs ($8.95) were moist and infused with the flavor of their marinade. While I liked the flavor of the chicken fillet kebabs ($8.50), I wished they had been made with dark meat instead of the somewhat drier breast meat.
Overall, a place worth seeking out for fresh and healthy eating at a reasonable price.
