Voters making a choice between Tom Suozzi and Adam Haber can do so at the polls. Tuesday night, they can take their voting to the table.

You see, both politicos have major involvements in Nassau County Italian restaurants: Suozzi is married to the lead investor at Stango’s at the Orchard in Glen Cove, and Haber is a partner at Lula Trattoria in Mineola. Both dining spots garnered two-star (very good) ratings in Newsday reviews earlier this year.

Lula Trattoria, which specializes in Italian small plates, was termed a “buoyant” spot that’s “all about good taste” in the Dining Out column in January. Standouts included the brick-oven pizzettes, meatball sliders and rigatoni with sausage, Gorgonzola and Swiss chard. Great house-baked bread, as well.

Stango’s at the Orchard, the renovated version of Long Island’s oldest Italian restaurant, was featured in the “Cheap Eats” column in May. The review cited “checkered-cloth tables” and such culinary highlights as lasagna Bolognese, crepes Fiorentina and roasted spring chicken. House-made focaccia and garlic knots were terrific.

Who can best run a county? Not venturing an answer on that one. This much, though, we can tell you — both contenders know their gnocchi.
