Southampton celebrates the season
“SeptemberFest” is what the village of Southampton calls its annual festival, which, this year, runs from Friday, Sept. 27, to Sunday, Sept. 29. In addition to a juried art show, historical re-enactments, concerts, clowns and pumpkin carving, there will be two food-related events, both in Agawam Park:
On Saturday, from noon to 2 p.m., grab a mug and take part in the annual chowder contest. More than a dozen restaurants ladle out their signature chowders, and the public decides which one is the best. Among the competitors are Southampton’s Coast Grill, Red|Bar Brasserie, 75 Main, Southampton Social Club and Shippy’s Pumpernickel Restaurant, as well as Robert’s Restaurant (Water Mill) and Brewsters Seafood (Hampton Bays). A mug is $15, or get two for $25.
On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. through early evening, “The Taste of Southampton” will offer foods, wine and beer from local restaurants, caterers, wineries and breweries, including Crabman Crabcakes, Golden Pear Café, North Fork Food Works, BOA Thai-Asian Fusion, Southampton Public House and Vines and Branches, the olive oil-vinegar emporium that opened a Southampton branch, its third, in April.
