The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene

Roslyn Heights: Don’t forget about Andel’s

Since I spend so much time on the LIE, I’m always on the lookout for dining destinations within shooting distance of its exits. Today, in need of lunch, I remembered Andel’s, the venerable deli-appetizing counter that’s located on Roslyn Road midway between exits 38 and 39. (You need to get on the service road to hit it, or use exit 29N on the Northern State.)

But anyway, I picked up an enormous corned-beef-on-rye (with mustard and sauerkraut) for my colleague. As usual, I had a hankering for dark-meat turkey, but I was out of luck so I settled for egg-salad-on-rye. Both sandwiches were very good.

As for the dark-meat turkey, so far I’ve only found it dependably available at Lido Kosher Deli in Long Beach, and International Deli in East Meadow. Know of another source? Tell me!

Andel’s is at 350 Roslyn Rd., Roslyn Heights, 516-621-9858.
