Red in Huntington 'is gone' in fire
Red, a Huntington restaurant known for dishes ranging from steak frites to spinach-and-ricotta ravioli, is a "complete disaster" following a fire on Saturday, co-owner Nino Antuzzi said Monday.
"The entire restaurant is gone."
About 70 people were evacuated from it Saturday night. The fired blazed through a block of stores and destroyed the popular Red, situated at 417 New York Ave. Red boasted a combination of Italian and New American fare. And you could order a good paella, too.
Assessors and adjusters were at work Monday at the site. Antuzzi said that any reopening "is probably going to take a couple of months." In addition to destruction from the fire, there was water damage.
Meantime, Antuzzi said, the plan is to keep Red's employees at work at his other restaurants, Osteria da Nino in Huntington and Cafe Red in Kings Park.
Antuzzi added that Osteria da Nino, a mainstay on Main Street in downtown Huntington, had just completed a major renovation. And the menu has expanded to include some Sardinian specialties.
