R.S. Jones in Merrick celebrates 20th anniversary
R.S. Jones in Merrick has just turned 20. In honor of the milestone, co-owners Margaret Mueller and Carole Olkoski will celebrate Nov. 3 starting at 4 p.m.with an evening of live music and lots of reminiscing.
It was back in 1993 that Mueller, the manager and Olkoski, the chef, first launched the casual Western-Southern spot originally called Rattlesnake Jones. They had to change its name in 1995 because of a trademark issue. But what hasn't changed very much, said Mueller, is the crew — most of whom have been around since opening day.
At the anniversary celebration, the featured band will be the Biscuit Kings, described by Olkoski as playing “foot-stomping” music. John Gelinas, former chef of The Bayou in Wantagh and Big Daddy's in Massapequa, is the group's main man. “He's been a mentor to us over the years,” said Mueller.
Anyone who comes to the restaurant that night with an original Rattlesnake Jones T-shirt or other memorabilia will receive a free Stampede, a rum punch drink. Mueller added that there will be plenty of giveaways and door prizes, too.
About the food: Order a la carte from the regular menu, which, except for the prices, is pretty much the same as it was when the restaurant first opened.
