Open: Dao in Huntington

Peking duck is a staple at Philippe East

Peking duck is a staple at Philippe East Hampton, the latest from the owners of luxe-Chinese restaurant Philippe in Manhattan. The East Hamptons eatery, which specializes in nouvelle Chinese cuisine, brings its city forebear's flavors beachside to the former Kobe Beach Club site on Three Mile Harbor Road. For months, driversby have been watching Dao as a work-in-progress. The ambitious Asian-fusion-sushi spot opened over the weekend. And while they're still completing the exterior, the dining room is ready to go. First bite: very good. And the stage for the performance definitely is splashy enough. Come for the colorful sushi rolls, with names such as Playboy and Twister, and classics including tasty Beijing duck, pad Thai,  chicken satay and tuna ceviche, Vietnamese sweet-and-sour soup and pumpkin bisque.

You also can empty your wallet on Kobe beef with truffle sauce and the chef's tasting, or omakase. The eatery immediately has a niche in town and for miles around, too. Dao is at 92 E. Main St., Huntington; 631-425-7788.
