Om Bistro, chef Richard Desmond's ambitious "comfort contemporary" restaurant, has closed.

The restaurant at 4 Welwyn Rd. in Great Neck had been open less than a year.

Desmond, an accomplished tenor, has been referred to as the "singing chef," whose voice could be heard in dining rooms over the years. He has been chef at Bliss in East Setauket and Public House 49 in Patchogue.

Desmond said Tuesday: "I'm going to lick my wounds and go on." He would like to open a restaurant "somewhere else."
