Nordstrom's new restaurant: Sixth & Pine
The new Sixth & Pine at Nordstrom in Roosevelt Field takes its former counter-order Cafe Nordstrom up a level.
The comfort factor runs higher than previously, since there’s table service and upholstered booths. I settled into one, beginning lunch with a shared appetizer of jalapeño cornbread ($5.95). Served in a black iron skillet, it was moist, spicy and a little sweeter than I’d have liked. Even so, this cornbread is far better than one would expect in a department store eatery.
Shrimp and crab Louis ($13.75), a salad made with iceberg, romaine, avocado, tomato as well as chilled wild shrimp and lump crabmeat, was curiously short on crabmeat and had way too much “Louis” sauce, a pink Thousand Island-style dressing. Better was a cilantro lime chicken salad ($10.50), reprised from Cafe Nordstrom's repertoire. It was quite a sprightly mix, made with baby greens and romaine, moist poached chicken breast, pumpkin seeds and grilled corn, among other ingredients. Also satisfying: a roast turkey Reuben sandwich ($11.50).
Way to finish: warm apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream, freshly whipped cream and caramel sauce ($5.95).
Sixth & Pine is on the third floor at Nordstrom, Roosevelt Field, 516-746-0011. It’s open until 8 p.m. and accepts reservations on Open Table.
