In this week’s Newsday, Peter Gianotti reviews Eric’s Italian Bistro, the newest venture from George Echeverria, who “has starred at high-style restaurants such as Soigné in Woodmere and Amicale in Huntington Station; plus the more modest Andiamo in Mineola.” The chef-owner named his new Mineola restaurant for a beloved uncle, and Eric’s honors Uncle Eric “with exemplary service and a warm approach that suits the newcomer's accessible combination of traditional and modern fare.”

Joan Reminick visits Fiza Family Diner in New Hyde Park, a modest eatery that delivers on homestyle cooking and Indian street fare such as achari aloo wraps (flaky paratha bread cradling a spicy-savory potato filling topped with coriander and chopped onion) and chicken malai wrap (paratha enfolding creamy boneless chicken, eggs and the works). Proof that “great gustatory pleasure doesn't have to come at great cost.”
