Kale and quinoa at Saks Fifth Avenue
As department store restaurants go, Cirella’s at Saks Fifth Avenue in Walt Whitman Shops has been on top of food trends since opening a decade ago with its own sushi bar. Now, the menu has been updated with a roster of dishes containing today’s two most fashionable ingredients, kale and quinoa.
Order the combination of chopped kale and cooked quinoa as a stirfry or salad, presented in a bowl in such styles as teriyaki (with broccoli, carrots, roasted red peppers, scallions, crispy noodles and sesame ginger dressing), Southwest (with salsa, corn, black beans, Cheddar and chipotle sauce) and Caribbean (with pineapple, salsa, roasted red peppers, onions, red kidney beans and raspberry vinaigrette). Each bowlful costs $12 before being topped with such proteins as chicken (add $5), shrimp (add $8), turkey (add $5) or tofu (add $4).
