Greenport gets a new food plan
Keith Luce, who built his local reputation at the departed restaurant Luce & Hawkins at the Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport, now plans to overhaul the North Fork Oyster Company and its surrounding buildings in Greenport.
His holding company, North Fork Hospitality, bought the Greenport restaurant and the Stirling Square buildings around it on Friday. The long-term goal is to create a culinary hub that also will include a cafe, a tasting room, and retail shop, while creating a "lifestyle brand."
Luce, a North Fork native, said he had job offers in Asia and the Middle East, but concluded there was "no way I could leave the area."
The shop will sell food products, including Luce's cured meats and salts, as well as the chef's favorite kitchenware, aprons and towels . Luce recently raised funds to establish the charcuterie business in Mattituck.
"This is a whole concept in the Square," Luce said. "It's going to be an evolution."
He added, "The restaurant is going to be rebranded ... and open in early May under a new name." It will be a "regional American" menu, Luce said. "I still have my farm." The style will be informal and the prices less-expensive than at his earlier restaurants.
Meantime, North Fork Oyster Company will stay open during the changes slated for Stirling Square.
