Arandell, meet merlot.

They're the names given to two new grapes that grew out of a Cornell University competition that elicited more than 1,000 submissions.

Both grapes could be grown on Long Island. The two grapes were studied at the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Riverhead.

The winning were introduced today at the Viticulture 2012 conference...
