In conjunction with National Hamburger Month — as if you didn’t know it fell in May — Friendly’s Ice Cream has launched an online build-your-own burger contest. It’s open to anyone 15 years or older.

Contestants design a burger by selecting a bread, protein, cheeses and toppings from a set list of ingredients and accompaniments, to be found at friendlys.com/burgerbash. The deadline for entering is May 20.

Three finalists will then get a chance to compete at a “burger bash” to be held Sunday, June 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Friendly’s in Massapequa Park. A panel of judges will pick Long Island's winning burger based on creativity, taste and presentation.

The winner will get a $100 Friendly’s gift card as well as a chance to have the chosen burger served for a month at his or her local Friendly’s.
