East Northport Asian fusion metamorphosis
It happened when I wasn’t looking: Aki Japanese Cuisine in East Northport transformed itself into Aki Asian Fusion. Seems the way so many Japanese and Chinese restaurants are going these days.
On a recent visit, I taste a mighty fine Shanghai-style soup dumpling, the skin supple enough to contain the soup before I gingerly take a bite (hot, hot, hot) and then devour the pork filling. It's also light enough to make me want to have another and yet another still.
From the sushi bar, I have two maki rolls, both featuring fresh fish paired with rice that's hard, sticky and icy-cold. That's the problem with my salmon avocado roll as well as a mango tuna special roll wherein the spicy tuna lacks fire power.
In a 2008 article naming the top ten sushi restaurants on Long Island, Aki Japanese Restaurant snagged the number ten spot. Right now, Aki Asian Fusion wouldn't quite make the cut.
