Jericho Turnpike is one of Long Island's longest restaurant rows. Here are five flavorful stops along the Woodbury stretch.

BEN'S, 7981 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury; 516-496-4236

This is one of three branches of the deli in Nassau. It's an essential visit for chicken soup with either noodles or matzoh balls; and on Fridays, cabbage soup. Anytime, open wide for the overstuffed sandwiches, especially hot pastrami, corned beef or hard salami. There's good chicken-in-the-pot, roast turkey, baked knishes, hot dogs and a lineup of Dr. Brown's sodas.

ANTHONY'S COAL FIRED PIZZA, 8063 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury; 516-367-2365

The "well done," ever-expanding chain includes a Woodbury location. All the pizzas are very good. But go for the roasted cauliflower number, a savory pie finished with bread crumbs, olive oil, pecorino and mozzarella. The white pizza with pecorino, ricotta and mozzarella; and the cheese calzone also stand out. The salad with Gorgonzola is a fine accompaniment. Enjoy the sports and show-biz photos.

MAJORS STEAKHOUSE, 8289 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury; 516-367-7300

Fairly priced steaks are the lure at  casual Majors, which has a sibling in East Meadow. Meatball sliders, the sirloin burger, the chopped sirloin, short ribs with mashed potatoes, filet mignon, pork chops with braised sauerkraut and the traditional shrimp and crab cocktails are among the basic choices.

BUTERA'S, Jericho Tpke., Woodbury; 516-496-3633

The informal, Italian-fare mini-chain has several links on Long Island. Sample the focaccia sandwiches; panini such as grilled chicken and broccoli rabe or prosciutto with roasted pepper, mozzarella and tomato; grilled pizzas; eggplant rollatine; fried calamari with hot cherry peppers and capers with marinara sauce.

LAGUNA GRILLE, 7927 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury; 516-682-8000

Burgers, salads, wraps, fajitas -- they're among the staples at casual Laguna Grille. The shrimp-and-calamari seviche and the beef, chicken and spinach empanadas add some flair to the choices. Laguna Grille's shell steak is accented with roasted tomato salsa; the ground salmon burger, with avocado and mango-pineapple salsa.
