Fans of the long-standing Christiano’s Italian Restaurant in Syosset can breathe a sigh of relief — at least for awhile. The pizza-pasta-Parm place, often cited as the inspiration for Billy Joel’s “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant,” had been slated for closing after being bought by the Singh Hospitality Group earlier this year. Plans had been announced for a major reinvention by chef-restaurateur Tom Schaudel.

But that has been put off until sometime next year, said chief executive Harendra Singh. Singh added that his company, along with Schaudel, are focusing on other projects for the present. Which means that the Christiano's crew, menu and Billy Joel memorabilia collection will remain as they have been for the past several years. At least for now.

Christiano's is at 19 Ira Rd., Syosset, 516-921-5588.
