Chef Gallagher, Tellers restaurant part ways
Cornelius Gallagher, the heralded chef who returned to Long Island this summer at Tellers in Islip, no longer is associated with the restaurant.
Tellers is expected to unveil a new menu and refurbished dining room next month.
Tellers, an "American Chophouse," is part of the Bohlsen Restaurant Group, which also operates four-star Monsoon in Babylon, Prime in Huntington, Verace in Islip, and H2O Seafood Grille in Smithtown, among others.
"While Neal did some good work and gave us some winner dishes for the menu, the long term fit did not work," said BRG managing partner Michael Bohlsen.
Bohlsen added that "the vision for the rebirth of Tellers remains intact and is on track." He termed it "a team effort requiring the fullest commitment and fulfillment of responsibility from each member of staff."
Gallagher had been corporate executive chef with the Bohlsen company. His career on Long Island started at La Plage in Wading River. He also cooked in Manhattan at the departed Lespinasse, as well as Oceana and Bouley. Gallagher was at the now-closed Dragonfly in Manhattan before rejoining the Bohlsen group.
The upcoming menu at Tellers will reflect "both the soul of a classic American chophouse along with the spirit of today's remarkable Long Island cuisine," according to Bohlsen. He said that it will consist of dishes developed by him, his brother Kurt Bohlsen, and BRG operations director Robert DiPierro.
Tellers is in a former bank building.
