If you’re the one taking issue, clearly you aren’t up on one of the latest trends in gastronomy: vegetables charred to a delectable crisp. Call it a mistake gone right.

At Ciro’s Italian Restaurant, with branches in Kings Park and Hauppauge, burnt broccoli is a popular side dish wherein florets are served up crunchy, charred and garlicky. Burnt Brussels sprout leaves ($6) are rendered crunchy and sweet at both Jackson’s in Commack and its new gastropub sibling, Morrison’s in Plainview. At Abeetza Next Door in Greenvale, chef-owner Joseph DiLorenzo chars broccoli on an open grill and then briefly sautées it in a superhot pan with roasted garlic and olive oil before shaving some Reggiano cheese on top. And if you want some burnt broccoli to eat at home, try Marine Fisheries in Great Neck, a fish market that also sells vegetables and salads to go.
