Billy Joel Syosset inspiration Christiano's makeover on hold

Christiano's in Syosset, thought by many to be

The saga of Christiano’s, the former Syosset restaurant debated to have been the inspiration for Billy Joel’s “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant,” is a long and ongoing one. But progress on its makeover is at a standstill.

Christiano's was bought last year by the Singh Hospitality Group, which had signed on restaurateur Tom Schaudel to conceive and supervise a new restaurant. But plans changed earlier this year after the group's president, Harendra Singh, transferred the property to his wife's company, Gold Coast Hospitality.

“We're planning something really amazing,” was all that Ruby Singh would say back in the spring. Now, however, she is saying that the project has been put on hold, this after much demolition work. The only explanation Singh would offer was that, at the moment, she has too many other things on her plate.

Whether Singh will resume work on the restaurant or sell the site remains to be seen.
