A Vintage meal in New Hyde Park: First Bites

Vintage in New Hyde Park makes this winter bearable.

Start with a cold-weather salad at the new Italian-etc. restaurant, situated at the border with Garden City Park.

Very good frisee, cubes of Asiago cheese, dried cherries and duck confit add up to a rich, satisfying combination that will allow you to forget the last 10 salads you tried.

And then follow with either pan-seared red snapper topped with frizzled leeks and atop creamy ones;  the excellent filet mignon with lush “truffle whipped” potatoes; or the juicy pork chop with roasted red bliss potatoes, onions and hot cherry peppers.

Veer Italian for dessert and enjoy the creamy tiramisu.

Naturally, there are respectable wines by the glass.

Vintage, 2232 Jericho Tpke., New Hyde Park; 516-502-6900.
