212 Sushi Lounge opens in Rockville Centre
The new 212 Sushi Lounge in Rockville Centre takes over the former digs of Chichen Itza, a short-lived Mexican restaurant. The space has been entirely gutted and renovated, said Jeff Foroglou, who co-owns the new dining spot with Barry Huang, a partner at Aji 53 in Bay Shore and Smithtown.
The menu, said Foroglou, covers a lot more than sushi. It lists crispy rock shrimp tempura ($9), oysters and foie gras ($16), tamarind and chili glazed spareribs ($10), braised black cod ($23), shrimp and vegetable tempura ($16) and hibachi salmon ($18), cooked in the kitchen, not at a communal hibachi table. Raw fish options include a sushi sashimi platter ($23), a spider roll ($8) and a mango madness roll made with salmon, lobster, shrimp and tuna ($15).
The restaurant’s name, by the way, derives from its address, not its area code. Add it to Long Island’s ever-growing list of number-named restaurants. Next project: Another list of restaurants, ones whose names also include the word “lounge.”
