Type: Breakfast, Lunch, Coffee, Beer, Wine bar Description:

Not yet a month old, Crazy Beans, a coffeehouse and eatery in Miller Place, was a local port in the storm during the days following superstom Sandy. “We didn’t lose electricity,” said owner Callie Brennan, “and ended up having a ton of people in here” — eating, drinking and charging their electronic devices.

Brennan and a group of friends — among them chef William Miranda — are currently serving breakfast and lunch until 3 p.m. Then, until 9 p.m., the place becomes a coffeehouse serving baked goods as well as coffee, tea, wine and beer.  Because craft beers are a personal passion, Brennan offers local brews from such breweries as Rocky Point Artisan Brewers and Port Jeff Brewing Company. Coffee beans come from a small batch roaster in Brooklyn.

On the menu: a “huevos locos” burrito filled with eggs, Cheddar, bacon and a proprietary Crazy Beans hot sauce ($7.50), pulled pork pancakes — two pancakes with a layer of pulled pork in between, the whole drizzled with BBQ sauce ($6.95), a Gouda and apple grilled cheese sandwich with honey mustard and bacon ($7.50) and a chicken and blueberry salsa salad ($7.95). Brownie waffle sticks, mini apple and pecan pies and chocolate chip cookies ($2.50 each) are among house-baked desserts.
