Cedar Creek American Bar & Grill, one of my Top 11 restaurants of 2011, greeted 2012 with a new chef and a revised menu. You'll welcome the updated eatery.

Chef David Dunn prepares excellent  "gastropub steak frites," a juicy sirloin angled on a hillock of spinach, paired with crisp fries and a blue-cheese "fondue," or dip. He also sends out a tasty spin on chicken...

The former Armadillo Grille, Babylon

Once, there were two Armadillo Grilles — the original, which opened in Babylon back in 2005, plus a short-lived Sayville spinoff. The restaurant’s stock in trade was oven-barbecued ribs as well as burritos and salads.

The Sayville restaurant didn’t last very long. Now, the Babylon one has closed.

Moving into the vacated space is the new Tidewaters Grill & Tavern, an American restaurant...

Sacramone's, East Meadow: First bites

The namesake coal-fired oven at the new Sacramone’s Coal Oven Pizza warmed up a recent night. I ordered a 10-inch “Mama’s old fashioned” pie ($9.50), which was topped with a melty confluence of fresh mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, olive oil and basil. Its crust was light and puffy, a nice char speckling it. The restaurant had other attractions, like a vibrant pasta dish featuring small shells...

Antonette's Classico, which took over the Rockville Centre site long-occupied by Ristorante da Ugo, has expanded its specials to include Sicilian dishes.

The menu is populated with traditional southern Italian and Italian-American dishes, from mozzarella in carrozza, minestrone and pastas Bolognese, alla vodka and with clam sauce to red snapper Livornese, scungilli fra diavolo and shrimp Parmigiana.

Souper Bowl V, the fifth annual contest of Port Washington’s best soups, was played on Saturday and the Judges’ Choice award went to Innuendo for its logmahn soup, described on the restaurant's menu as “a Mediterranean masterpiece of aromatic delight that will leave you breathless. Sauteed peppers, onions, tomatoes, celery, carrots, garlic, and long beans are combined with hearty chunks of beef...

Deli Boss, the sleek kosher takeout / caterer in Roslyn Heights, has closed. Deli Boss was opened in Fall 2010 by Randy Rosner and Harvey Daniels, who operate the Bagel Boss just a few doors down (as well as Bagel Boss in Port Washington).

The menu was devised by consulting chef Marc Anthony Bynum, who hit it big at Tellers Chophouse in Islip, competed successfully on Food Network’s Chopped,...

The chefs at Amarelle, the New American eatery in Wading River, will hold a cooking class on Sunday geared to Valentine's Day.

Lia Fallon, Martial Boffy and pastry chef Kelly Donlon will conduct the Feb. 12 session, which goes from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $150 and includes a four-course lunch with wine pairing that begins at 2 p.m. For an additional $75, you may have your Valentine...

Barrique: Baffled in Babylon

The change in the kitchen at Barrique has had little evident effect on the dining room. When executive chef Pierre Rougey left a month ago, Frank Falgiano, his sous chef, took over the reins. The menu is basically unchanged, still a testament to current dining trends — small plates, cured meats, modern Mediterranean and updated comfort classics. On Friday night, the dining room and bar were both...

Giants quarterback Eli Manning poses with the Vince

Eli Manning, you've just won the Super Bowl. What are you going to do?

 "I'm going to Disney World!"

And maybe stop at Umberto's in New Hyde Park, too. The pizzamakers deserve a visit from the MVP. After all, they did deliver the pies on Friday to ensure that Manning delivered the goods on Sunday.

Give him extra toppings, too.

While he's on Long Island, Manning...
