What you'll find: At this 111 acres park, there is a swimming complex featuring six pools; an olympic-sized, diving, kiddie, training, slide and interactive pool (children ages 5 to 12), but a fee is required. In the facilities, anyone can use the lounge chairs, picnic tables, lockers and showers. If you didn't bring a lunch, a concession stand is available. Also, the restrooms are within close proximity of any area of the park.
The park has a fishing pier and marina (boat fees for Nassau
residents are $20 for 1-day launch, open to all and daily dockage with fee), three baseball and two softball fields (permit required), tennis courts (summer), game area with chess and checkers and a playground with swings, slides, a maze. A two-mile jogging course, bicycle paths, picnic areas (reserve; fee) and gazebos (fee) are here, too. The park is children-friendly with a hint of relaxation in the shade or by the water.
For the dogs (permit): Nicely shaded with a canopy, donated items like water bowls and chairs are available to the dogs. Because of the location, the best part is that the owners can feel the breeze from the water. The dogs must be leashed to and from the caged-in areas. And don't worry, large and small dogs (30 lbs. and under) are separated. But don't come on the first Tuesday of each month because it will be closed due to maintenance.
At the boat launch: Don't forget to go to the park's office to grab a permit and pay the fee to launch your boat.
Park office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
